OUR JOURNEY
SINCE 1990
We’re L’affare. The coffee business. Ever since 1990.
We were born out of a love for espresso, in Wellington at our café and HQ. 30 years later, we’re still there on College Street.
Our people make us who we are today. We’re a mixed bunch of creative, industrious, adventurous humans, all with a great love for serving NZ the freshest and best coffee possible.
Getting behind our local communities is important to us, and we proudly support many organisations NZ-wide.
THEN & NOW
L’affare is a pioneer of New Zealand’s celebrated café and coffee culture. We’ve spent the last 30 years selecting, roasting, cupping and blending some of the best coffees the world has to offer. Running and supplying some of the busiest cafés, restaurants and supermarkets in the country keeps us in the know. We’ve been on shelves doing just that, in supermarkets nationwide since 1994. We made our fresh coffee available to all New Zealander’s, and have been a well loved staple item in pantries across the country.
sustainability
We’re on a mission to constantly reduce the impact we have on our natural environment.
Every day we look for more ethical and sustainable ways to operate our business. Our environmental management systems are first-rate; we are Toitu Enviromark Gold certified (previously Enviro-Mark Solutions) and have been since 2010. Last year, we embarked on our journey to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 through Toitu’s programme, ‘Toitu Carbonreduce Toitu Carbonzero’, furthering our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint.
L’affare supports Fair Trade and partners with Trade Aid and the World Fair Trade Organization to support producers and their local communities in coffee-growing countries worldwide.
Recycling our soft plastic packaging
Like you, we’re committed to doing the right thing for the environment. So our gold bags are made from soft plastic packaging. This keeps our coffee fresh and tasty AND is recyclable through The Packaging Forum’s Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme.
Soft plastic collected through the Scheme is processed by The Packaging Forum’s partners Future Post and Second Life Plastics. These clever companies use the plastic to make new products like fence posts, garden boxes, floor tiles and waterslides. Nice.
